Grilled Goat with Roasted Turnips and Potato Latkes

November 22, 2010

A little Saturday night cookin’ at home and we decided to dive into the goat! It came already cubed so we took the marinade & grill approach.

As usual, I do not know the specifics of Alan’s marinade, but hopefully the soldiers in the background should provide some insight. Whatever the combination, it smelled amazing.

The cubes were a bit too small for the skewer approach so we went with the grill basket, which worked out pretty well. Not much time needed as they were small pieces, probably 5-8 minutes on the grill.

I decided to take some of the Nicola potatoes and green onions from our CSA to make some Potato Latkes. Pretty basic concept, but I used this recipe to check myself. Potato, green onion, egg, salt and pepper.

A little saute/fry in some vegetable oil for a few minutes on each side and you are good to go. I naturally threw a little goat cheese on top when it was served, but it would have been fantastic without it. So simple yet so much flavor.

I also ventured to the farmers market today and came home with a few turnips, so we roasted up one big turnip to add to the plate. The one slight let down was that the goat turned out a little tough, I guess thats why almost every recipe we found for goat involves a stew….. But over-all it was delicious, all local (with the exception of spices, oils and marinade ingredients), and we cant wait to do it again!!
