Well, as expected, our dinner at Miel was incredible! It is a tiny little restaurant, cozy and modern, similar to one of our other favorite restaurants – Avec

We started off with an order of olives  – always a great snack, but I have to give them props for the addition of some orange zest to brighten it all up. Brilliant!

While everything on the menu looked completely delicious, I settled on the Pappardelle Pasta with roasted butternut squash and mushrooms in a hazelnut, garlic butter sauce. Fantastic.

Unfortunately, photos of Alan’s meal did not turn out so well – but he went with the special of Alaskan Cod, topped with shredded roast beef, with an incredible slightly sweet red wine reduction and  roasted veggies from the garden. An odd combination, I must say, but it actually worked quite well – the cod was cooked just on the verge of not done enough, so it just melted away in your mouth.

As I am naturally not much of a dessert person, and am absolutely obsessed with good cheese, we opted for the cheese plate for dessert. Noble Farms goat cheese (one of my favorite local vendors) was the only local cheese on the plate, which was a bit disappointing, but when it comes to good cheese I have to say I don’t so much care.

Wine’s for the evening included

 – Gruet Demi-Sec from Albuquerque NM – a great sparkling start to our meal, bright, not too sweet.

 – 2004 Rotllan Torra Reserva Carignan Blend from Priorat Spain – Alan and his impeccable wine memory remembered we had had this particular wine at his apartment years ago with his parents. How he does it, I will never know

This coming Saturday they are hosting a wine and food tasting with Kermit Lynch wine importers and the Green Hills Wine Shoppe – only $20! I don’t know if I can resist!

Check out  Miel! You wont regret it.
